Programs

The PTSO offers programs which address many of the issues faced when parenting teenagers. Our goal is to provide practical information to help you help your child achieve success and have a fulfilling high school experience.

The first program meeting of the year was held on Monday, October 22, 2007 with a presentation about helping students pass the Graduation Exams and improving their scores on the ACT and SAT. Click here for notes from the meeting.

The next program meeting, focusing on Internet Security, was held on Monday, January 28, 2008. We would like to thank Ian Barnes, Ms. Baker, and Lisa Boyd from the Jefferson County central office for their contributions. The discussion following the presentation was especially helpful as parents shared tips of their own. Several files are available for download; CyberSpace Workshop, Online Networking, and Internet Security.

The third program meeting of the year was held on Tuesday, April 1, 2008. The presentation offered sophomore and junior parents practical information about college applications, visiting college campuses, scholarship resources, etc. Dee Dee Barnes Bruns, Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management at UAB, was the featured speaker. Click here for notes from the meeting.

Do you have an issue or topic you would like addressed? If yes, contact the PTSO at 205 379-5350 option 8 or ptso.svib@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you.
